The Web’s 25th birthday was celebrated in New York at the 18th annual Webby Awards. The event, which honours “excellence on the Internet,” featured an address by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, during which he spoke about the past, present and future of the Web. He ended his speech with a call to everyone to take ownership of the Web, noting that it is “Up to us” to protect a free and open Web and create the Web We Want. Leading up to the event and in honour of the Web’s birthday, the Web at 25 joined forces with the Webby Awards to highlight 25 projects from artists, writers and filmmakers celebrating the past and future of the Web.
