Grantee Project
TEDxVail will photograph and produce 50 large format portraits of women and girls who do not have access to the Internet, as part of JR's Inside Out Global Project. These photos will be posted throughout Beaver Creek, Colorado, highlighting the need for sharing resources in a caring economy, and sparking the conversation about the haves and have-nots, leading to greater Internet accessibility in Eagle County. An example of the best of Inside Out projects can be found here: http://www.insideoutproject.net/en/best-ofhttp://www.insideoutproject.net/en/best-of
TEDxVail helps the community, organisations and individuals spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. TEDxVail is planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design), and will screen videos of TED Talks and live presenters.
Many American communities have dramatically reduced funding on infrastructure for the commons upon which many poorer citizens rely for access to the Internet. In Eagle County, there is an extreme gap between the haves and have-nots. TEDxVail will literally show to the community those women and girls who lack Internet access. They will post their quotes beside each image about how the lack of Internet affects their school, work and life. The photos will be posted in the commons in Eagle County and will highlight the need for access, as well as the impact that Internet access would have on productivity and community storytelling in this highly diverse community. By bringing the Inside Out, TEDxVail expects to reveal parts of the community that would otherwise go unheard.
