The context

Barrio Hacker: The Free Network of Villa Coronilla is an open internet connection in the district of Villa Coronilla in Cochabamba, Bolivia. The local community (barrio) has free access to the Internet thanks to a server on the premises of mARTadero, a self-managed community art and cultural center. Barrio Hacker serves to strength citizen involvement and cultural exchanges, while supporting a culture of free Web access in the city.

The project

This project, proposed by Fundación Imagen during our 2015-2016 grant cycle, will run from September 2015 through February 2016. Fundación Imagen will update the Barrio Hacker platform and continue efforts to expand the network’s coverage. They will also create and distribute materials that enable others to replicate the project.
