The Philippine Internet Freedom Alliance (PIFA), a nationwide campaign network created in part by the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA), is a broad alliance of organisations and individuals who stand together to fight for the protection, promotion and advancement of Internet freedom. PIFA is working to promote human rights online and offline both through a consistent and strong Web presence, as well as by conducting online and offline awareness-raising activites.

The Web We Want grant helped to finalise the Alliance’s Internet Freedom Platform, which will serve as the basis for PIFA’s political engagement and policy engagement, and also supported the implementation of PIFA’s communication strategy. This communication strategy will help to sustain the growing movement for Internet freedom in the Phillippines. The use of online media helped a campaign against the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 to gain momentum, and both PIFA and FMA hope to sustain the momentum gained, particularly the support from the international community, to expand the movement and to put more pressure on legislators to create a policy environment that enables and protects online freedom.
